This is just a brief conversation I overheard between two girls, maybe in their early twenties, who sat in front of me on the bus as we travelled crosstown to the east side of Manhattan. I don't know their names, but we'll call them Anabelle and Darla:

Anabelle: The thing is, you're new to the city and so they're going to go wherever you want to go.

Darla: It's fine...

Anabelle: There's this energy from you, and it's kind of negative and intense, and I just think that if we want this day to go well, the energy is going to have to be more positive, because right now we could be heading into a bad place.

Darla: I'm confused.

Anabelle: What?

Darla: Your tone of voice is confusing me. There's no problem. I don't understand why you're saying this.

Anabelle: I don't know; it's probably a reflection of what you said before.

Darla (voice shaking): Really it's just fine...there's no problem...

But the hotel seemed so much larger

i went dancing saturday night at "Frank's"...met this girl named veronica and we danced for about 2 hours. it was so damned loud. i probably should have asked her for her phone number. the funny thing is, a bunch of pictures of the dance were posted on a website. this is a picture of me and the lovely lady who i will probably never see again (i'm wearing the mostly white shirt with blue stripes down the back, and you can't see my face).

Sherrie Swafford broke up with Steve Perry before the video was even made. The futility and angst of this dark tale of unrequited love and devotion rings true for me to the very depths of my soul. The sheer evil and heartless immorality of Sherrie pretending to be attracted to Steve Perry just so she could advance her own career, by participating in a play within a play within a play, is reminiscent of King Lear.
